Why the SoC decision is really a sourcing decision

How to match a SoC to your application

RK3566 — the value default for most kiosks and HMI

If your product is a single-screen interactive kiosk, an industrial HMI panel, or standard digital signage running Android, RK3566 is usually the most economical choice. It handles a 4K panel, capacitive touch, and typical POS/queue/kiosk apps comfortably, and its price keeps your quote competitive. RK3576 — when you need real on-device AI without the flagship price

The 6-TOPS NPU is the differentiator here. If your terminal runs on-device people-counting, product recognition, age/sentiment analytics, or anomaly detection, RK3576 gives you AI headroom at a moderate cost step-up from RK3566 — without committing to flagship pricing. It is a strong mid-tier for smart retail and "Edge AI" terminals.

RK3588 — the flagship for 8K, multi-screen and heavy AI

Choose RK3588 when you truly need 8K decode, multiple independent 4K screens, multiple camera inputs, or demanding edge inference. It is the right call for premium video-wall signage, smart-cockpit-style multi-display, and AI edge gateways — but budget for higher unit cost, larger MOQ and longer lead time.

What to verify before you commit

  • Android version support — confirm the board vendor offers a current Android build with security updates, not an abandoned one.
  • Display / touch integration — does the reference board match the panel size, resolution, brightness and capacitive touch you plan to quote?
  • Certifications — CE/FCC/UL and the specific market certs (EU red-directive, US UL, MENA conformity) for your target region.
  • Availability & lead time — ask for current and forecast availability before locking a quote.
  • Customization path — OEM logo, boot screen, pre-loaded app, and the ability to refresh to a newer SoC later without redesigning the whole enclosure.

Risks of over- and under-speccing

Over-speccing adds BOM cost, raises your quote, and can force larger MOQs that make the deal uncompetitive — a common reason value-tier kiosk deals stall. Under-speccing risks a product that can't add a requested AI feature later, forcing an expensive redesign mid-contract.
